I got into superheroes because Batman Begins.
First non-Vertigo comic I ever bought was a one-shot called “BATMAN: SCARECROW 3D”, and that was entirely because movieverse Scarecrow was super pretty.
And that comic had Tim in it and I remembered Robin being Dick Grayson so I looked into this…
The first Spider-Man film and the Static Shock cartoon and then later the Teen Titans cartoon. It was I think around Batman Begins or so that I started getting more into the casual collector mindset and then when Iron Man came out I started actually going into comic shops and stuff (as opposed to subscriptions or buying them at Barnes and Noble.)
Honestly? I got into comics IN COLLEGE because of YA literature. My favorite YA author, Tamora Pierce, wrote a miniseries for Marvel (White Tiger) and of course I had to read it. And then…everything else happened. There is no wrong way to become a fan, and certainly a person is never too old to become a fan. All roads lead to god, etc.
I got into comics because Neil Gaiman. I became an out and proud fangirl because Doctor Who, at age 22. I don’t give a fuck how you got here, just as long as you got here.
